German thrash metal archetypes Sodom are back with their new album The Arsonist, out June 27 via SPV Recordings. The first single and lyric video "Trigger Discipline," arguably the toughest song on the album, has been released. Prepare to bang your head so hard that you get a splitting migraine — in the best possible way.

The song concept is equally martial and is about a sniper who loses control. The subject matter is pretty brutal, like so many things going on in the world today. I’ll give you a moment to check it out and gather your feels!

  • Sodom formed in 1981 and have gone through many lineup changes, with bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper being the only constant and founding member. His highly distinctive vocal style has been described by the media as a mix of Lemmy, Cronos (Venom) and Tom Araya (Slayer), but is unmistakable in its own right.

  • Sodom is referred to as one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal (regional scene of thrash metal within German speaking countries), along with Kreator, Destruction, and Tankard. In addition to this, Sodom heavily influenced the German black metal scene and is regarded as a pioneer of death metal.

  • Sodom has released seventeen studio albums, three live albums, two compilation albums and seven EPs. The band is one of the best-selling thrash metal acts of all time, having sold over two million records.

  • With a goal of having the most natural production possible on The Arsonist, the band recorded the drum parts using a 24-track analog tape machine and did not have any digital overdubs or studio tricks. All four Sodom musicians were involved in the development of the material on The Arsonist.

The band is often credited as a major influence on many classic and modern death and thrash metal bands and The Arsonist is another staple in the band’s rich history. Legends. Icons. That's SODOM.
