17 years after its release through Overstage Imperator Productions, Notes Du Paradis / Whoop Whoop Whee Whee is the second and final album from the now-defunct French band Doctor Livingstone to be reissued in vinyl with the support of Coups de Couteau label. Known for mixing black metal, hardcore, and crust punk, Doctor Livingstone operated within a chaotic and abrasive space between genres, drawing comparisons to acts like Catharsis, Martyrdöd, Converge, pg.99, and The Secret.
Their music was intense, unpredictable, and relentlessly raw, making them a standout in the underground scene before the band eventually disbanded.
Recorded by Cédric Castel at the In The Box studio, Notes Du Paradis / Whoop Whoop Whee Whee is an experimental album that captures Doctor Livingstone's raw and unpredictable creative process, with twelve tracks—each presented in two different titles—blending abrasive textures, vulnerable moments, black metal, vocal distortion, and social commentary, all inspired by an eclectic mix of influences including Dada, the Marquis de Sade, Schopenhauer, and Cioran, and none of which were rehearsed prior to recording.
For its first ever vinyl pressing, the album has been carefully remastered by the renowned Bruno Varea, ensuring the album's sound remains as impactful and visceral as ever. The new artwork, designed by Maxime Taccardi, brings a fresh, yet faithful, interpretation to the album’s themes, offering a deeper visual dimension to match its sonic intensity which captures the essence of the music that influenced Doctor Livingstone’s early years. This is an album for those who appreciate the experimental, the unpredictable, and the boundary-pushing spirit of underground music.
Note that one of the band's distinctive features is its dark humor—the kind that makes you grit your teeth. While some bands tend to deliver a serious and straightforward message, Doctor Livingstone deliberately takes winding paths to create a sense of unease, always balancing on the edge between laughter and raw truth.
