As we near year's end, Aeons have unveiled a remarkable new video for the track 'Machines'. Taken from their latest album The Ghosts Of What We Knew, this emotive visual work is a timely reminder of that critically acclaimed masterpiece. The video was created by the band's Simon Harvey and he has shared his thoughts on both the song and the imagery that he selected to tell its story...
The song...
"The song is about a man whose wife/love/partner is terminally ill. She is in hospital but dies while he is out of the room, when she is alone, left with the medical machines that were keeping her alive. Her final breath passes and all there is to witness it are the cold machines that do not care nor comprehend. He then condemns himself for everything they could have done - all the time they didn't use and all the things he could have said. Wasted years. 'God damn those wasted years'..."
The imagery...
" I wanted something dichotomous such as stone that's weeping. Strength and emotion. In the monochrome medium I went for statues and then digitally altered them so they bled. The rest of the video is as dreamlike as I could make it - with some false memories of the scene and the emotions that always seem to be the brick and mortar of any visit to the hospital. The ghosts of the staff and the patients. At the end it's a series of photos of their past life as he's going through them, slamming each one onto the table in tears, screaming at the world for the lost time..."
